3 Common Repair Issues You Run Into With Pool Heaters

If you have a pool heater, this is the time of year that you want it working. Temperatures are warming up, but are not yet hot enough to truly enjoy the cool water in your pool. That’s why you invested in a pool heater. You want to enjoy your pool year round, even when temperatures are more mild.

But what happens when your pool heater isn’t working as it should? You may need pool heater repair in Barrington, IL. Our team is here to help, and you can keep reading to learn more about the three most common repairs that we see in the area.

Lack of Heat

The biggest complaint that we hear when it comes to pool heaters is a lack of heat. Since that’s why you invested in a pool heater to begin with, not having heat seems like a pretty obvious problem. The question is, why isn’t your pool heater working the way it should? Most of the time, your pool heater doesn’t warm up the water line you expect because of an issue with the temperature sensor.

Our team can take a look at the thermostat attached to your pool heater and make sure it is communicating properly. There may be an issue with how it is reading the temperature sensor, or how it is communicating with your pool heater to provide heat. If we cannot troubleshoot the problem, we can install a new thermostat or temperature sensor.

Water Flow

There is also a good chance that water flow is to blame for a lack of heat. If enough water is not passing through the pool heater, then your pool will never get as warm as you want it to. It may be that your pool filter is clogged and needs to be cleaned out. There’s also a chance that the pump basket is full and blocking water flow.

These are things that our team can definitely come out and take a look at, but they are also things that you can handle yourself as a homeowner. If you check your filter, and it is not clogged, or you check the pump basket and it is empty, then something else may be to blame for a lack of heat in your pool. We are happy to help troubleshoot either way and can then offer you tips for preventing the problem again in the future.

Cycling On and Off

Your pool heater should run consistently to provide heat for your pool. If it is cycling on and off constantly, that’s a good indication that you have a power issue. There is a high limit switch built-in as a safety feature, and if it is triggered then your pool heater may short cycle and turn on and off frequently.

Something may be impacting the pressure sensor or thermal regulator instead. Our team may have to do some troubleshooting to figure out exactly what is wrong. No matter what it is, we can figure it out and offer a solution. Keep in mind that you definitely want to give us a call if your pool heater is cycling on and off frequently. Even if your pool still feels comfortable, this is adding a lot of wear and tear to the system. Allowing it to continue cycling like this could lead to a shorter lifespan.
